Cultural Art Festival Exhibition
It is a good time prior to Khmer New Year which will come this April there will have a festival art exhibition showing about the perfect Khmer culture and art. This is the third annual Cultural Festival about Khmer Cultural and there will also other interesting Art Exhibition will held at Chaktomuk Theater this March from 28th to 29th starting from 9:00 am to 20:00 pm.
This event is aimed in promoting Khmer art and culture through innovative research on ancient communities, the theme of “achievement and future” will encourage the growing movement to protect and take pride in Khmer identity by preserving its heritage.
The main event during the two day festival will be the cultural performances, at $3 a ticket, featuring rare and classic performances like “Lbok Ktor”, “Chrout Srov”, “Chapei Dorng Veng” and the famous “Lkon Khoal”– an ancient dance usually only performed for the King in ancient times. The dance is notorious for being made of up of only men.
The “Lkon Khoal” is also known as Khol drama – a masked dance drama also featuring male performers. The plot is usually based on the Reamker or Ramayana. Styled similarly to the Royal Ballet of Cambodia, it is performed with narrators and a traditional musical ensemble.
UnescoWorld Heritage Committee put the Royal Ballet and Lkhoan Sbek Thom, the big shadow puppet show, on the Intangible Cultural Heritage List, but Champei music, Khmer silk and Khol Drama are still in the nominating process.
